Conference Overview
Each year, the Rural Health Conference is attended by health care professionals, community leaders, academicians, government officials, policy-makers, and representatives of faith-based organizations who gather to hear from prominent speakers and to share information and knowledge about the health disparities that impact rural Alabama. We invite you to share your work through the conference’s poster session.
There will be two poster divisions. The chart below provides details for each.

Abstract Submission
Poster Specifications and Guidelines
- Posters must be displayed on 3’ x 4’ standing, trifold poster boards. The center panel is 3’ tall and 2’ wide; the two side panels are 3’ tall and 1’ wide (these are the standard display boards used for school science projects).
- You may purchase your own trifold poster board or request one from the Institute for Rural Health Research at least two weeks prior to the conference. You must supply your own mounting materials (pushpins, tape, glue, etc.).
- The posters will be displayed on 3’ x 6’ tables.
- No posters will be displayed on conference room walls.
Poster Display
- Posters will be continuously on display throughout the conference. Posters should be set up on Wednesday, Februray 20, between 7:00-7:30 a.m. and broken down at 4:00 p.m.
- A special poster viewing and judging session will be held from 11:30-12:15 p.m. During this time, at least one individual representing your poster should be available to discuss your presentation.
Poster Recognition
- A list of posters and authors will be placed in the conference folders.
- Two awards will be presented:
Student Division: Judges Choice Award
Professional Division: Judges Choice Award
- All of the award-winning authors will be formally recognized during the Closing Session.
Conference Registration
All poster presenters must register for the conference and pay the $100 registration fee if attending more of the conference other than the poster session. Students must also register but will have their fees waived.
Important Dates
January 16 – abstract submissions due
February 1 – accepted authors notified
February 20 – poster setup (7-7:30 a.m.)
February 20 – poster breakdown (4:00 p.m.)
