The General Pediatric Clinic: All faculty members (six pediatricians and a nurse practitioner) see patients every weekday. This provides a source of comprehensive out-patient medical care for a variety of children from all over West Alabama, many of whom have complicated medical problems. It also serves as a primary teaching experience for medical students and family practice residents.
Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00

Pediatrics Clinic Staff

The ADHD Clinic: The University of Alabama's ADHD Multidisciplinary Clinic provides care for children from 6 to 18 years of age with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The ADHD Clinic, which began operations in February of 1999, is a collaborative project involving the Pediatric and Psychiatry Departments of the medical school and The University of Alabama's School of Social Work and Psychology Department. Children & teenagers who are having behavioral and/or academic problems at home & school undergo an initial diagnostic evaluation and after diagnosis, are offered treatment & ongoing management through the clinic. The clinic meets on Monday afternoons throughout the year.

The Adolescent Clinic: This is a regional clinic for teenagers, ages 12-21 years of age. It is a specialty clinic staffed by Mark Thomas, M.D., a pediatrician who specializes in adolescent medicine. The clinic is designed to deal with many of the special concerns and issues that affect  the health & welfare of teenagers. The clinic meets on Tuesday afternoons throughout the year.

The Perinatal High-Risk Followup Clinic: This is a multispecialty clinic involving pediatrics, social services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, developmental and hearing specialists, and nutritional services. The patients seen in this clinic are graduates from the regional high risk nurseries and include a number of medically fragile children. The clinic is held on Wednesday afternoons.

The West Alabama Child Medical Evaluation Center: This is a forensic pediatric clinic for medical assessment of children who have come to the attention of local authorities as potential victims of child abuse. In operation since 1991, it bas served over 700 children from 11 counties in West Alabama. It is one of only a few clinics of this type in Alabama. The clinic is equipped with a sophisticated colposcope and computer software to enable the doctors to record, study, and conduct ongoing research and quality assurance with other forensic pediatricians in the state & across the country in an effort to improve the ability to assist these most unfortunate and needy children. All appointments are scheduled through the investigative agencies (DHR, law enforcement, courts).

The Regional Sickle Cell Clinic meets four days a year, bringing a team of services from Children's Hospital including a Pediatric Hematologist to the University Medical Center Pediatric Clinic to serve children from across West Alabama with sickle cell disease.
