Eight students graduated from the College of Community Health Sciences with master’s degrees in population health sciences during The University of Alabama summer commencement Aug. 1 at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The graduates: Demetrius Bennett, John Bonvillain, Nya Fowler, Chloe Kaplan, Aeriel Lundy, Phazhon Nash, Connor Paine and Hannah Velette.
Population health sciences is an interdisciplinary field that combines clinical care with public health practices to reduce, manage and prevent disease. The 30-credit-hour program trains students to address the health needs of diverse communities using data-driven strategies to improve healthcare.
The program is designed for health care professionals, administrators and researchers and can be completed in three semesters. Classes are offered in person and online and are taught by CCHS faculty with expertise in medicine, nursing, public health, psychology, health education, economics and health policy.
Since 2018, when CCHS launched its Master of Science in Population Health Sciences degree, 73 students have graduated from the program.
Many program graduates have gone on to careers as nurses, physicians, healthcare administrators, health educators, dentists and physical therapists, applying population health principles in a variety of health care and community settings.
