The program is for medical school graduates and will prepare board-eligible residents in the field of psychiatry. The four-year residency allows for six residents each year, for an eventual total of 24 residents in training each year.

The Tuscaloosa Psychiatry Residency provides opportunities for residents to learn and work alongside highly skilled and experienced mental healthcare professionals in a range of inpatient and outpatient settings, including urban medical centers and rural community sites. The Psychiatry Residency Gift Fund will enhance resident education, and support innovative training opportunities and hands-on clinical experience

The psychiatry residency joins the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, also operated by CCHS and one of the largest family medicine residencies in the nation.
