Dean's Message

At the College of Community Health Sciences, our work to build better health starts long before we care for patients at University Medical Center, our medical practice.

It begins in our classrooms, where medical students, resident physicians, fellows and graduate students develop the knowledge and skills that will shape their careers and the future of healthcare.

It continues in our clinical training settings, where our medical learners master the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care, and where they gain the expertise and confidence to practice in the evolving field of medicine.

It extends to our research labs, where our faculty and graduate students push the boundaries of discovery, generating knowledge that leads to better treatments, improved patient outcomes and healthier populations.

Most importantly, our work reaches into the communities we serve, where we strive to improve the health of people and the places where they live and work while remaining responsive to their healthcare needs.

Our work is a continuum, with each effort building on the last. When education informs patient care, research drives innovation, and community needs guide our priorities, we have the potential to create sustainable improvements in health. Every lesson taught, every patient cared for, and every discovery made helps us meet our mission of improving the health of individuals and communities.
