Amelia de los Reyes, EdD, MSN, RN, CTCP, director of Quality Improvement and Clinical Health Informatics for the UA Student Health Center, was nominated as one of Alabama’s Notable Nurses by the Alabama Nurses Association. de los Reyes was nominated for her service to the community and her commitment to make a difference in the health of Alabamians. Some of her community work includes serving as a board member for the DCH Health System Foundation and the Alabama Rural Health Association, a Board of Visitors member for the UA Capstone College of Nursing, an active member of the Alabama State Nurses Association District 2, and a member of the Alabama State Nurses Association 2022 Convention Planning Committee. CCHS operates the SHC.

Dr. Louanne Friend, associate professor of community medicine and population health with CCHS, provided two presentations at The American College of Preventive Medicine Conference in Denver, Colo., June 15-18, 2022. Friend, MN, RN, who also serves as interim chief nursing officer for University Medical Center and assistant director for Research and Quality Improvement for the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, presented: “CV Disease in the South”; and “Hypertension and Health Equity: Putting the Power in the Patient’s Hands Through Self-Measured Blood Pressure.” CCHS operates UMC and the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency.”

Dr. Ray Stewart, assistant professor of family, internal and rural medicine with CCHS, was installed as president of the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians for 2022-23. The AAFP provides educational programming for its members and represents family medicine physicians and their patients in the legislative, regulatory and public arenas. The association has more than 1,000 active family physician members and more than 850 student and family medicine resident members. Stewart, who is a practicing sports medicine physician at University Medical Center, which CCHS operates, earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his residency at The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by CCHS. During his residency, Steward received the William R. Willard Award for best intern and the Internal Medicine Award for Interns, and he served as chief resident. He was presented with the Resident Teacher Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine at his residency graduation. Stewart was selected as the first fellow for the Sports Medicine Fellowship at CCHS.
