Dr. Maryam Jafari Bidgoli is an Assistant Professor of Health Economics at the University of Alabama in the College of Community Health Sciences, Department of Community Health and Population Health since 2019. Before joining UA, she served as a visiting faculty member at the University of Connecticut (UConn) in the Department of Finance, Healthcare Management & Insurance Studies Program. Dr. Bidgoli earned her Ph.D. in Health Economics from Wayne State University (WSU) in Michigan in 2017. With expertise in modeling and analyzing health outcomes and healthcare-related data using large national datasets, Dr. Bidgoli brings a valuable perspective to her research and teaching. Her research interests center around applied economics, with a specific focus on the intersection of health with labor market outcomes and the role of financial well-being in overall well-being. A member of the American Society of Health Economists (ASHEcon) and Academy Health, she is dedicated to advancing the field of health economics. Alongside her teaching experience in various Economics and Econometrics courses, she has taught Health Economics, Healthcare Management, and Healthcare Industry Analysis. She teaches Health Economics at the graduate level and provides guidance as faculty mentor to help the students meet academic as well as professional goals throughout the Population Health program.
