OB/GYN Clinic Hosts Open-House

July 8, 2019

University Medical Center’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic hosted a patient open-house June 3, 2019, to introduce the newest member of the team, Dr. Heather Skanes-DeVold to UMC patients, faculty and staff. The open-house also served as an opportunity for the community to meet the clinic’s current physicians and learn about the services offered by UMC, which is operated by the College of Community Health Sciences.

Dr. Kristine Graettinger led the planning and execution of the event held at the College. Visitors were given ample opportunity to talk one on one with each of the OB/GYN providers as well as leaders within the College. Informative literature and promotional items were available.

The OB/GYN department at UMC’s Tuscaloosa location provides numerous services for patients including family planning, birth control, prenatal care, fertility evaluation and STD screenings. The clinic is accepting new patients.

Skanes-Devold is joining the clinic and the College August 1, after graduation from the residency program at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, where she served as the chief administrative resident. She received her medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

She will help to take on the patient load after Graettinger’s move to Wisconsin in July. Additionally, Drs. Cecily Collins, John McDonald and Marion Reed will take over the care of Graettinger’s patients.

Graettinger has served the College and UMC as a physician, instructor and chair of the OB/GYN department for more than 10 years. McDonald has been appointed interim chair until a permanent candidate is selected.
