Daniel M. Avery, Jr, MD, FACOG, FACS is the director of Medical Student Recruitment and Scholarship at the College of Community Health Sciences at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. He also serves as the Medical laboratory director and medical review officer for the University Medical Center Laboratory, and as professor and division chief of Pathology. He is a professor of Community and Rural Medicine and Medical Director for the Institute of Rural Health Research. He is a professor and former chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Avery received his MD degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1982. Following residency training in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology at UAB, he completed an OB/GYN Residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at UAB. Dr. Avery is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Endoscopy, Forensic Medicine, and Family Medicine Obstetrics. He has taught medical students since 1979 and has instructed Family Medicine and OB/GYN residents since 1985. He joined the faculty at CCHS after 20 years of private practice.
