Telehealth Division

Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine where information is transferred through interactive audiovisual media for the purposes of consulting and conducting remote medical examinations or procedures. Telemedicine may be as simple as two health professionals discussing a case over the telephone or as complex as using satellite technology and video conferencing equipment to conduct a real-time consultation between a physician and patient in different locations. For rural populations that are geographically isolated, and for rural patients who are physically or financially unable to travel long distances, moving care closer through telemedicine is key to improving access to care for all of Alabama’s residents.
