New chief residents named

Five residents of The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program were named chief residents for the 2023-24 academic year.

The new chief residents and their leadership roles:

  • Dr. Mitch Currie – hospital, committees, hospital quality improvement and patient safety
  • Dr. Nicholas Goodwin – information technology
  • Dr. Jillian Kelly – schedules, policies, procedures and clinics
  • Dr. Nicole Lally – curriculum, research, quality improvement and student engagement
  • Dr. Josh Washington – recruitment and professionalism

“Congratulations to our new chiefs,” said Dr. Tamer Elsayed, residency director. “We look forward to working with you as we advance our mission of excellent service to our patients, and as we train residents for full-spectrum family medicine practice.”

The new chief residents start in these roles July 1. They replace chief residents Drs. Afrin Biswas, Priya Chatha, Nicholas Goodwn, Houston Hodges and Kyle Scheuerman for the 2022-23 academic year.
