College of Community Health Sciences spring semester graduates were honored May 3 with a graduation brunch.
The graduates—Michelle Frick, Asia Johnson and Diana Martinez-Garcia—received their Master of Population Health Sciences degrees during The University of Alabama Spring Commencement May 3.
Population health integrates clinical care and public health practices with the goal of preventing, reducing and managing human diseases. The population health sciences master’s program, which is administered by the College’s Department of Community Medicine and Population Health, is designed for health care professionals, health care administrators and researchers.
“I’m so proud of every one of you and am delighted to take a moment to celebrate you,” program Director Dr. Mercedes Morales-Aleman said in welcoming remarks at the brunch. “I truly believe that taking care of people is really a sacred calling, and I can say that these graduates embody the service that is population health.”
CCHS Dean Dr. Richard Friend, who attended the brunch, said he has enjoyed watching the degree program grow and develop. “I think we all learned a lot from each other about how important it is to take care of a population. You guys are sitting on a degree that is going to be so valuable in whatever you do.”
