CCHS residents to attend family medicine conference

Five third-year residents of The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, operated by the College of Community Health Sciences, will present their scholarly research posters at the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Annual Spring Conference May 3-7 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The conference features a lineup of educational and interactive sessions, including seminars, lectures, paper presentations and poster displays. A panel of experts in family medicine education evaluated each submission, considering factors such as clarity, significance and originality in the research or educational content.

Residents presenting their scholarly work:

Austin Brooks and McKenzie Donald will present a qualitative analysis of medical students’ personal statements, identifying common themes among those entering rural practice and family medicine. They were mentored by Drs. Drake Lavender, CCHS associate professor in the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine, and Nathan Culmer, CCHS director of educational technology and faculty development.

  2. · Drs. Madison Peoples and Andy Thomas will present the Lifestyle Medicine Assessment Survey, which was administered to patients at various University Medical Center clinics. They were mentored by Drs. Ansley Baccus and Jon Baccus, CCHS assistant professors in the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. CCHS operates UMC
