Dr. Ravi Kumar, Distinguished University Research Professor at the College of Community Health Sciences, received an honorary doctorate from Krishna University in India for his contributions to pharmaceutical science and medicine. He is recognized for advances in nanotechnology and drug delivery systems that have changed how medicines are designed, developed and administered. His work combines materials science, pharmacology, biotechnology and chemistry to create new drug delivery platforms for immuno-inflammatory conditions, including lupus and diabetes. Dr. Russ Guin, who cares for patients at University Medical Center’s Family Medicine Clinic and its Dr. Bill deShazo Sports Medicine Center, received the Alumnus of the Year award at Northside High School in Northport, Ala. Guin is a 2007 graduate of Northside High and takes care of its student athletes as a team physician. He is also an assistant professor with the CCHS Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. CCHS operates UMC.
