Accolades 

Dr. Antonio Gardner, CCHS associate professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Population Health, was elected president-elect of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) for the 2026-2027 Board of Trustees. In this leadership role, he will support the current president of SOPHE in guiding the organization’s initiatives, setting strategic direction and advancing goals that promote health education and health promotion nationwide. SOPHE is a nonprofit organization representing health education professionals and students across the United States and internationally. Its members work in diverse settings collaborating to strengthen public health through education, advocacy, community partnerships and efforts to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities.  

Gardner also recently co‑authored a chapter in A Competency‑Based Framework for Health Education Specialists–2025, focusing on the Health Education Specialist Analysis III 2025 Process and Outcomes.
