Dr. Jesse Smallwood begins his training in July at the College of Community Health Sciences as its first pediatric fellow. Smallwood joins the College for fellowship training in family medicine-pediatrics.
Smallwood grew up on a small farm in Columbus, Ind. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. He worked as a pharmacy technician before matriculating into medical school at Kansas City University College of Medicine and Biosciences in Joplin, Mo., and was a member of one of the three original classes at that campus. He graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2023 and completed his family medicine residency at Reid Health in Richmond, Ind., where he served as chief resident during his final year.
Smallwood said caring for others is a vocational calling and a core part of his identity. He said he strives to inspire his patients to be the healthiest versions of themselves and works hard to help them on their journey to health and well-being.
