Alabama physician elected to top position with family medicine group

The American Academy of Family Physicians Congress of Delegates (COD) selected Dr. Steven Furr, a family medicine physician from Jackson, Ala., as the organization’s president-elect.

Furr, who was chosen Sept. 21 during a COD meeting in Washington, DC, has served as adjunct assistant professor with the CCHS Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine.

As president-elect, Furr will serve on the AAFP board of director’s Executive Committee, chair the board’s Subcommittee on Strategic Planning and Development, and serve as a member of the board’s Screening Subcommittee. The president-elect succeeds to the office of president.

Furr received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Alabama Huntsville Family Practice Program. He has been in practice for more than 30 years.

The AAFP represents 127,600 physicians and medical students nationwide. The organization advocates on behalf of family medicine physicians and patients to inspire positive change in the U.S. healthcare system.
