College selects three new obstetrics fellows

Three new fellows began their post-graduate training at the College of Community Health Sciences as part of its Obstetrics Fellowship for Family Medicine Physicians. They are Drs. Gabrielle Cordaro, Paloria Hills and Kyle Johnson. They began their fellowships in July.

Cordaro completed her residency at The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by the College. Hills completed her residency at the Texoma Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program in Denison, Texas, and Johnson completed his residency at the Conroe Family Medicine Residency Program with the Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe, Texas.

The CCHS obstetrics fellowship is a one-year program providing education and training in instrumental and operative obstetrics, Cesarean sections, ultrasound, colposcopy, cryotherapy and endometrial biopsies. Fellows are supervised by full-time, board-certified obstetricians and gynecologists in both hospital and clinic settings, and weekly lectures are provided.

Upon completion of the fellowship, fellows are prepared to meet the requirements for board certification in family practice obstetrics.

The Obstetrics Fellowship for Family Medicine Physicians is the oldest training program in the United States, created in 1986, to address the need for obstetrics care in rural and remote areas of Alabama.
