The College of Community Health Sciences exceeded its goal for this year’s Bama Blitz, raising $14,550 during the annual online fundraising event. The money will be used to provide new technology for the residency lounge at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, where the College’s family medicine residents receive inpatient training.
CCHS set a goal of $10,000 during Bama Blitz, held April 15-18. The fundraising event is for alumni, faculty, staff, students and other supporters to support The University of Alabama by giving to their favorite college or program.
The UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by CCHS, is one of the oldest and largest family medicine residencies in the United States, providing graduate medical education in the specialty of family medicine. The College also offers post-graduate medical education through year-long fellowships for family medicine physicians in behavioral health, emergency medicine, geriatric medicine, hospital medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics and sports medicine.
Nearly 600 physicians have received their specialty training through the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency since 2024, and 567 are practicing family medicine. Family medicine physicians care for patients of all ages and for the full spectrum of needs, including preventive care and the management of chronic conditions.
