
Dr. Brittney Anderson grew up on a small family farm in Autauga County, Ala. After graduating from Prattville High School, she attended Duke University in Durham, N.C., for her undergraduate studies, majoring in psychology/pre-med. After graduating, Anderson obtained a master’s degree in rural and community health from The University of Alabama as part of the College of Community Health Sciences Rural Medical Scholars Program.
She received her medical degree from the UAB School of Medicine in Birmingham in 2014. Anderson then completed her family medicine residency training at the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program. She also completed the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Health Equity Fellowship.
Anderson enjoys mentoring pre-med students and teaching medical students and family medicine residents. In 2020, she was presented with the University of Alabama School of Medicine Distinguished Young Alumni Award. She is the current Vice Speaker of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and is on the Board of Trustees for the Alabama School of Health Sciences.
Anderson has a passion for rural and underserved populations. Her career interests include minority health disparities, particularly in Alabama’s Black Belt, and identifying and addressing social determinants of health. She is dedicated to increasing recruitment and retention of students who are under-represented in medicine and reducing the shortage of physicians practicing in rural Alabama.
She enjoys traveling and has visited Ghana, West Africa, on multiple occasions to learn about the culture and practice of medicine there. She is a member of several community organizations and non-profit boards in the West Alabama region. In July 2022, Anderson founded Anderson Family Care, a private family medicine practice in Demopolis, Ala. She and her staff are honored to serve the patients of Marengo County and surrounding counties. In 2024, Anderson Family Care received the Alabama Small Business Award: Emerging Business of the Year.

Dr. Carl Shamburger grew up in Wilcox County, Ala., and was inspired early on to pursue a career in health care.
While in high school, he helped manage care for his grandmother, which instilled a desire in him to help and serve others. After being exposed to different medical professions, Shamburger decided that dentistry was his passion and thus began his journey to become a dentist.
After participating in the College of Community Health Sciences’ Rural Health Scholars Program while in high school, Shamburger attended Alabama A&M University in Normal, Ala., graduating summa cum laude in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2012, finishing among the top of his class. He currently practices dentistry in Montgomery, Ala.
Continual learning is a core value for Shamburger, and he has completed advanced training in cosmetic and reconstructive dental procedures, including placement and restoration of dental implants, root canals, crowns, cosmetic veneers, surgical procedures and design of custom esthetic dentures.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association 2nd District, Academy of General Dentistry, National Dental Association, River Region Seattle Study Club and is an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is a volunteer adjunct faculty member at the UAB School of Dentistry. Shamburger has been recognized for his achievements as a dentist and a leader, receiving the Emerging Leader Award from the Elite Lindenite Organization in 2014.
His background and experience in non-profit settings provided Shamburger with the opportunity to address a wide range of needs for both children and adults. He and his wife, Dr. Dominique Askew Shamburger, launched Montgomery Dental Arts based on their shared vision to provide comprehensive dental care for families in the greater Montgomery area.
Shamburger and his wife are active members of Reaching the Remnants Ministries. They enjoy spending time together as a family with their three sons. An avid sports fan, Shamburger follows football, basketball and anything on ESPN. He loves to cook and travel with his family.
