The College of Community Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Alabama Department of Public Health Office of EMS, implemented an EMS oversight program in 2007 to provide continuing education and updated technology to emergency medical services personnel in West Alabama, including Bibb, Choctaw, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter and Wilcox counties.
The College’s EMS program, under the Institute for Rural Health Research (IRHR), ensures that licensed Emergency Medical Technicians working in West Alabama are in compliance with the Alabama Department of Public Health Office of EMS requirements, including with CPR training, protocol education and continuing education. The program also serves as an advocate for the Alabama Department of Public Health Office of EMS, helping to ensure that the agency’s goals and objectives for EMS data collection are met.

Glenn Davis
A Nationally Registered Paramedic and director of the College’s EMS program. Davis has more than 40 years of experience with emergency medical services, providing EMT, Advanced-EMT, Intermediate and Paramedic training. He also serves as executive director of EMPACT of West Alabama, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency medical and community training programs in West Alabama.
Travis Parker
A Nationally Registered Paramedic who serves the department as an EMS Program Specialist. He has 39 years of EMS experience, including 27 years with the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service, the last 11 of those years as the EMS Division Chief.
