Karen Burgess, MD

Karen Burgess, MD — Chair, Pediatrics

Karen Burgess, MD, is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences. She is a pediatrician and has more than 10 years of experience. She serves as the clinic director for the Pediatric Clinic and oversees resident education for the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Burgess is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the American College of Physician Executives.

Burgess graduated from The University of Alabama with a BS in chemistry and earned her MD degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed residency training at University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Burgess is a member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators and continues to serve as a principal investigator in pediatric clinical trials. Additionally, she has a research interest in pediatric obesity.
