Dr. Daniel M. Avery, Jr. is a Professor Emeritus of Community Medicine and Population Health, Pathology, and OB/GYN at the College of Community Health Sciences. A native of Tuscaloosa, Avery received a medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. Following residency training in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology at UAB, he completed an OB/GYN Residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala., and a Postgraduate/Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at UAB. Avery has held numerous teaching positions instructing medical students and family medicine residents since 1985. He joined the CCHS faculty in 2003 after 20 years of private practice. Avery is the founding chair of the Board of Certification in Family Medicine Obstetrics.
