Mercedes Morales-Aleman, PhD
Associate Professor
Dr. Mercedes Morales-Alemán is associate professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Population Health with the College of Community Health Sciences. She is director of the College’s Master of Science in Population Health Sciences degree program. She teaches courses in Qualitative Research Methods and Health Equity, and also advises students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine who are completing their third and four years at CCHS.
Morales-Alemán’s research focuses on sexual health and health care access among ethnic minority women in the Southern United States. Her studies have been funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Science, National Institute for Nursing Research (NCATS/NINR/NIH) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). She has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Adolescent Health since 2022.
She earned her doctoral degree in Community Psychology from Michigan State University in East Lansing and completed her postdoctoral training at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
