Residency Director, Associate Professor


Dr. Tamer Elsayed is associate professor and interim chair of the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine at the College of Community Health Sciences. He is director of The University of Alabama Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by the College. In addition to participating in the clinical education of medical students and residents, he sees patients in University Medical Center’s Family Medicine Clinic.

Elsayed completed his residency training at the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by the College, where he received the outstanding research award for an influenza vaccine acceptance study.

He earned a bachelor's degree in medicine and a master’s degree of internal medicine from the Medical School, Cairo University, Egypt, where he graduated with honors. He also received an award of excellence from the Kuwait Ministry of Health.

Elsayed is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.
