Louanne Friend, PhD, MN, RN — Associate Professor, Chief Nursing Officer, Assistant Residency Director

Dr. Louanne Friend is an associate professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Population Health and is one of eight faculty selected to serve as an inaugural fellow for The University of Alabama Life Research Institute. She is assistant residency director for Research and Quality Improvement for the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, one of the largest in the country. Friend's expertise includes cardiovascular critical care, emergency department risk management and nursing leadership. her funded research targets the screening, diagnosis and treatment of hyperextension in Alabama. In addition to her research publications, Friend has authored book chapters related to nursing theory and nursing leadership. Friend teaches Interprofessional Health Communication and Introduction to Quality and Healthcare Informatics for the Master of Science in Population Health Sciences degree program.
