Assistant Professor and Psychiatrist


Dr. David Chandran is a psychiatrist with many years of experience. He studied medicine at Kurnool Medical School in India after earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola College in India. After completing medical school, he did his residency in Ophthalmology and worked as an Ophthalmologist at Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India, for eight years.

Later, Dr. Chandran moved to the United States He started his residency at Temple University in Philadelphia and completed at the University of Maryland. He also did Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He has worked in Maryland for over twenty-six years, mainly focusing on psychiatric care and teaching.

He spent 26 years working at hospitals in Baltimore, including Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, a facility for forensic psychiatry, where he worked for the last eleven years. He also served as a locum psychiatrist and Medical Director at Salisbury, Maryland. His work includes positions at Tidal Health Medical Center and Southeastern Shore Hospital in Salisbury. Additionally, he has worked as a Medical Director of Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton, connected to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chandran has been involved in teaching medical students and residents in family practice and internal medicine at Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton. His clinical work covers many mental health conditions, especially focusing on adults, adolescents, and geriatric age groups. He has been involved in the care of children and adolescents for over ten years at Taylor Manor Hospital in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Besides his work, Dr. Chandran enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. His career shows a strong commitment to improving psychiatric care and education, always aiming to provide compassionate and evidence-based treatment for different groups of patients in the field of mental health.
