Catherine Ann Lavender, MD

Clinical Professor

Dr. Catherine Lavender is a clinical professor in the Department of Family,
Internal, and Rural Medicine and director of the Division of Family Medicine
Obstetrics at the College of Community Health Sciences. She also cares for patients at University Medical Center clinics in
Northport and Carrollton. The College operates UMC. Lavender worked at Pickens County Medical Center
and Carrollton Primary Care before joining the College. She was a member of
the Pickens County Medical Center’s Hospital Board and its Medical Staff
Executive Committee. During that time, Lavender also served as a community
professor for the College’s Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine,
a volunteer preceptor for CCHS medical students and residents, and as an
affiliate professor with the College’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Lavender graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Biology
from The University of Alabama. She received her medical degree from the UA
School of Medicine and completed her residency at the UA Tuscaloosa Family
Medicine Residency Program, where she served as chief resident. She
completed an obstetrics fellowship at the Austin Medical Education Program in
Texas. Lavender is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and
a member of the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical
Association of the State of Alabama. She has received numerous awards from
the UA School of Medicine, including Excellence and Dedication in Teaching,
Outstanding Services in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Outstanding Research
Award, the Mentorship Award and the Argus Award Finalist for Best Clinical
Faculty. She was recently elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor
Society as an outstanding University of Alabama at Birmingham alumnus.
