Dr. Caroline Boxmeyer, professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, was named the College’s associate dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs. She served previously as assistant dean for Academic Affairs. At the College, Boxmeyer provides behavioral health training to family medicine residents, medical students, rural programs students and psychology graduate students. She also provides psychological services to patients at University Medical Center, which is operated by CCHS. In addition, she is a research scientist at the University’s Center for the Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems. Boxmeyer received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Princeton University and a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of California, San Diego. She completed a two-year pre-doctoral internship at the National Institute of Mental Health. She also completed a clinical psychology internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.


Dr. Karen Burgess, professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, was named executive and medical director for the UA Student Health Center and Pharmacy. She was also named assistant dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs for CCHS. Burgess serves as director of University Medical Center’s Pediatric Clinic and cares for patients of the clinic. UMC is operated by the College. Burgess also oversees the education of family medicine residents for the Department of Pediatrics. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American College of Physician Executive and the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators and serves as a principal investigator in pediatric clinical trials. Burgess earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from UA and her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Children’s Hospital of Alabama.
