Dr. Pamela Payne-Foster, professor of community medicine and population health at The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, was awarded the 2020 Linda Mays Volunteer of the Year Award for her services in support of the Alabama Office of Women’s Health.

“Your dedication to the health and wellbeing of women in Alabama is inspiring,” Dr. Jessica Hardy, director of the Office of Women’s Health, said in announcing the award. “We greatly appreciate all that you do for communities in Alabama.”

Payne-Foster, a preventive medicine physician, is also deputy director for Community Outreach for the College’s Institute for Rural Health Research. She teaches and interacts with UA students in her role as coordinator of health-related service-learning activities. She has research interests in health disparities, obesity and diabetes, bioethics and medical ethics, and diversity and cultural competency issues in health care.

The Alabama Office of Women’s Health is part of the Alabama Department of Public Health.
