CCHS Faculty Receives Community Engagement Fellowship

March 27, 2020

Dr. Mercedes Morales-Aleman, assistant professor of community medicine and population health for the College of Community Health Sciences, was one of only three University of Alabama faculty awarded a Community Engagement Graduate Fellowship for their research.

The fellowships are awarded by UA’s Council on Community-Based Partnerships and include a $15,000 stipend for faculty, as well as additional financial support for recipients to have a graduate student participate in and assist with their research.

In awarding a fellowship to Morales-Alleman, the council’s Faculty Teaching and Research Support Committee noted her prior work and experience, the Community Advisory Board she formed that enables community members to provide input into her research, and her focus on a new population, rural individuals.

Morales-Aleman and the other fellowship recipients will be presented with their awards during the 14th Annual Excellence in Community Engagement Awards Luncheon on April 15 at the Bryant Conference Center/Sellers Auditorium on the UA campus.
