College’s family medicine residency hosts Research Day

May 26, 2023

Home health visits, airway management, HPV vaccinations, blood pressure and prenatal care were some of the topics presented at the College of Community Health Sciences Resident and Fellow Research Day, hosted May 23 by the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program.

The residency, which is operated by CCHS, is a three-year education and training program for medical school graduates seeking to specialize in the practice of family medicine. The program’s curriculum includes a research component. During Research Day, residents presented their research projects and findings.

“This is an extraordinary class, one in which I am very proud of,” Dr. Louanne Friend, the residency’s assistant director for Research and Quality Improvement and associate professor of community medicine and population health with CCHS, said in opening remarks. “They had to endure a lot through their three years of training, even through COVID-19. Even though it was not what they signed up for, they helped me vaccinate most of The University of Alabama campus.”
