Mercedes Morales-Aleman, PhD

Program Director, Associate Professor


Dr. Morales-Alemán is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Population Health (CMPH) in the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) at The University of Alabama (UA). Her research focuses on sexual health and healthcare access among ethnic minority women in the United States South. She earned her doctoral degree in Community Psychology from Michigan State University and completed her postdoctoral training at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her studies have been funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Science, National Institute for Nursing Research (NCATS/NINR/NIH) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Dr. Morales-Alemán is also the director of the Master of Science in Population Health Sciences Program at CMPH/CCHS. She teaches courses in Qualitative Research Methods and Health Equity. Sha also advises medical students doing their 3rd and 4th years at our regional campus, UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Finally, Dr. Morales-Alemán has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Adolescent Health since 2022.
