The mission of the Department of Translational Science and Medicine is to create a rich teaching and research infrastructure for conducting preclinical innovation and therapeutic developments in immune-inflammatory diseases to better understand low-grade inflammation, dysfunctional immune systems and co-existing diseases. Through this work, faculty in the department are training the next generation of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and professional students to address gaps in the drug discovery and development process and to meet the growing demand for advanced-level research and development in immune-inflammatory research. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty are heavily involved in teaching and research that addresses real world medical issues that include biological barriers to drug delivery, diabetes and complications, lupus and kidney diseases. Faculty research has been published in renowned national and international peer-reviewed journals.
