Shawn Cecil, MD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Shawn Cecil is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the College of Community Health Sciences. He is a practicing pediatrician and also cares for patients at University Medical Center, which the College operates. Cecil received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Alabama through the CCHS Rural Medical Scholars Program. He earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, completing his third and fourth years of medical school at the College, which also functions as a regional campus of the School of Medicine for the clinical education of a portion of medical students. Cecil completed his pediatric residency training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and served as chief resident at Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Ark.
Cecil has provided care in both the clinical and hospital settings, and he currently serves as clinic director for the CCHS Department of Pediatrics. He is an active member in the Alabama chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and he serves as medical director for the Northwest ACHN Region with Alabama Medicaid. Cecil's research and quality improvement interests include improving vaccination rates, mental health, autism screenings, early childhood development and oral health.
