Dr. Brittney Anderson is a family medicine physician at University Medical Center in Demopolis, where she cares for patients in a region of the state known as the Black Belt. She has cared for patients with COVID-19 who, because of their underlying health conditions, often experience more adverse outcomes from the virus. Those underlying conditions are the result of a critical shortage of health care in the Black Belt. Anderson talks about the light that COVID-19 has again shown on the serious health disparities that exist in Alabama’s Black Belt, and what can be done to try and improve this situation.
