It’s a Match: 2019

The College of Community Health Sciences in March filled its 2022 class of residents and celebrated medical students who completed their clinical education at the College and were selected for residencies across the US.

Sixteen residents will begin the three-year University of Alabama Family Medicine Residency July 1. Four members of the incoming class will finish, in May, their fourth year of medical school at the College, which also functions as the Tuscaloosa Campus for the University of Alabama School of Medicine. They are Jacob Guin, Joshua Price, Crystal Skinner and Hannah Zahadi, and they are among the 36 medical students who matched into residencies.

The largest number of medical students matched into family medicine residencies at eight, followed by six in general surgery, five in pediatrics, four in internal medicine, four in neurology, two in obstetrics and gynecology, and one each in emergency medicine, anesthesiology, radiology, thoracic surgery, neurological surgery, orthopaedic surgery and plastic surgery. Altogether, Tuscaloosa campus students placed into residencies across 14 states.

“I matched with my number one choice,” said David Osula, a Tuscaloosa campus student who matched into internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. “Match Day is everything we’ve worked for the past four years coming to fruition.”

The College’s mission is to improve and promote the health of individuals and communities in Alabama and the region, and one of the ways it fulfills that mission is by addressing the primary care physician workforce with comprehensive family medicine residency training and medical student clinical education.
