McDonald to Serve as Interim Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. John McDonald, associate professor of OB/GYN at the College of Community Health Sciences, was named interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology effective July 1. Dr. Kristine Graettinger, who is currently serving as department chair, is leaving the College and moving with her family to Wisconsin.

John McDonaldIn his new role, McDonald will continue teaching the College’s medical students and resident physicians and caring for patients at University Medical Center, which CCHS operates. He will also continue as director of the College’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship, a position he has held since 2008.

After graduating from The University of Alabama with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting, McDonald earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed residency training at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, where he served as chief resident. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

McDonald has received a number of teaching awards throughout his career and has served on numerous CCHS and UA committees. He has served as chair of the OB/GYN Department at DCH Regional Medical Center. He is a certified public accountant (inactive) and a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs.
