Erika Chapin — Research Project Coordinator

Erika Chapin is Research Project Coordinator for the Drug Delivery Research Group. Before joining the group, she worked as a medical laboratory technologist at PCR-Dx in Tuscaloosa, where she prepared and extracted biological samples using a variety of methods, analyzed samples of COVID-19 using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques, and prepared and organized laboratory equipment and samples for state audits. Prior to that, Chapin was a laboratory analyst for Pace Analytical in Tuscaloosa. In the role,she utilized a variety of laboratory equipment for sample preparation and analytical testing, managed quality assurance and control checks, and ensured data integrity. She worked previously as a purchasing assistant at University Medical Center, which is operated by The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, and she served as director of school programming for the UA Diabetes Education Team, recruiting and managing volunteers and organizing weekly sessions at local schools to teach children about diabetes and how to create healthy habits. Chapin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The University of Alabama.
