New Chief Residents Named

Four residents of The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency were named chief residents for the 2021-22 academic year.

The new chief residents and their leadership roles:

• Dr. Tameka Hairston – Recruitment and Conferences
• Dr. Ellen Lorenzen – Curriculum, Research, Quality Improvement and Student Engagement
• Dr. Jordan Pharris – Hospital, Committees, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
• Dr. Josh Price – Schedules, Policies and Clinics

The new chief residents start in these roles July 1. They replace Drs. Morgan Benefield, Nathan Boles, April Frater and Melissa Smith, chief residents for the 2020-21 academic year. “Words are not enough to thank you for your contributions, excellence and professionalism in a very extraordinary year,” said Dr. Tamer Elsayed, residency director. “Every day during the COVID-19 pandemic, you have shown exemplary leadership, resilience and helped us navigate the challenges that we faced while you continued to take care of patients on the front lines.”
