Retirement

December 2, 2022

After more than four decades of caring for patients and teaching medical students and resident physicians, Dr. Joseph Fritz will retire from CCHS at the end of 2022.

Fritz, a family medicine physician, opened his own practice, Warrior Family Medicine, in 1978 in Tuscaloosa. In 2013, he merged his practice with University Medical Center, which is operated by CCHS.

In addition to caring for patients at UMC clinics in Tuscaloosa and Northport, Fritz also became assistant professor with the CCHS Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. In his academic role, he taught the College’s family medicine resident physicians as well as UAB Heersink School of Medicine students completing their clinical education at CCHS.

Fritz earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine (now the UAB Heersink School of Medicine) and completed the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by CCHS.
