High School Programs

The Rural Health Scholars (RHS), Rural Dental Health Scholars (RDHS) and the Medical Opportunities and Outreach in Rural Education Scholars (MOORES) Programs are outreach summer programs of the UA rural medicine pipeline to involve rural high students in pursuit of health care careers and to ultimately produce physicians and dentists for rural Alabama who are leaders in community health.

The RHS, RDHS and MOORE Scholars recruits, selects, and involves rural Alabama high school students in a summer term at UA where they will reside in campus housing, enroll in college courses in science or English, participate in seminars and field trips related to rural health professions, and learn about steps necessary to be successful in pre-health professions curriculums in college.

MOORE Scholars (Medical Opportunities and Outreach in Rural Education)

The program was initiated to increase the number of traditionally underrepresented students from rural Alabama who qualify for admission to medical school through the Rural Medical Scholars Program. This program is for rural Alabama high school students currently in 12th grade who plan to enter college in the next academic year.
