LaKeea Binion joined the College of Community Health Sciences in November 2024. She has 3 years of experience in proposal development with non-profit organizations and public and private institutions. Prior to proposal development, she managed and wrote grants for federal grant programs. In her role with the CCHS, she manages the proposal development process from start to finish, ensuring timely delivery.

Pre-Award Process
Find Funding
Research funding is available through federal, state, industrial, institutional and private organizations. If you need assistance finding funding, please contact the Proposal Development Specialist or the Research Assist Office.
Here are some great resources to find adequate funding opportunities for your research. These can be added as buttons or a list, whatever feels better.
Develop Original Idea
- Review the literature and conduct bibliographic searches.
- Notify the department chair and Proposal Development Specialist of your research interests. Complete the Pre-Proposal Form (Completing this survey will trigger the entry of information into Cayuse for routing the IPF)
- Identify faculty with similar research interests.
- Identify possible sub-contractors and/or vendors. Complete the Subrecipient vs. Contractor Form
- Secure program applications and guideline material
- Review the PI Toolkit. The PI Toolkit is a collection of tools, information, and other resources to guide you through the award lifecycle. PI Toolkit – Research & Economic Development
- Review the UA Guidelines & Procedures for submitting applications.
- Review CCHS Research steps (can we hyperlink to Research Steps page) and submit a Request to Conduct Research form for committee review.

Draft Formal Proposal and Budget
- Meet with the Proposal Development Specialist to discuss proposal requirements and develop a draft budget. Budget Template
- Be available for last-minute discussions and revisions.
Submission
- Notify OSP of intent to apply at least 10 business days prior to sponsor deadline. See UA Proposal Routing Policy.
- Complete final draft of proposal.
- Submit the final draft of proposal, draft budget, and any required documents to OSP Grants & Contracts Specialists for approval
Work with Proposal Development Specialist and OSP Grants & Contracts Specialists to make any final edits to the grant application.
