Medical Withdrawal

The medical withdrawal policy of The University of Alabama establishes procedures to follow when a student suffers from a physical, emotional or psychological condition that significantly impairs their ability to function successfully or safely as a student. The policy is primarily administered by the University’s Student Health Center and Pharmacy (SHCP). Please review the UA Catalog for all non-medical withdrawal needs.

Medical withdrawals are governed by the UA Medical Withdrawal and Return to Campus Policy.
The purpose of this policy is to provide academic relief to the student, not financial relief.

Please refer to the Student Account Services policy for the financial impact of withdrawals at different stages in the semester.

If you wish to pursue a medical withdrawal, first carefully review the UA Medical Withdrawal and Return to Campus Policy. Following review of the policy, it is your responsibility to see that the required forms are submitted to the SHCP (see links below). Completed forms for the University Policy on medical withdrawal and clearance are required to begin a review of the request.
