Our pharmacy is conveniently located inside the Student Health Center and Pharmacy (SHCP) lobby, just steps from our clinic.
Our pharmacy carries many common prescription items as well as over-the-counter medications and toiletries used by college-age students. We can fill prescriptions, including ones from your family physician, provided the medications are stocked in our pharmacy. Refills may be requested by phone or through our Pharmacy Mobile App. Prescriptions and over-the-counter items can be charged to student accounts, FSA/HSA cards or credit cards.
Please remember to bring your ACTion card and health/pharmacy insurance card. If you have questions about your prescription or any of our over-the-counter products, call 205-348-6276.
Over the Counter Items (OTC)
The pharmacy carries a small selection of over-the-counter items available for purchase. These items will be billed to the student’s account.
- Cough and cold
- Allergy
- Personal hygiene
- Vitamins
- Antacids/Gastrointestinal
We recommend students have a first-aid kit available to them on campus. For our list, see the First Aid Kit page.
Our pharmacists are available to offer counseling (free of charge) to discuss your medications, health concerns or to recommend OTC products to treat short-term illnesses that don’t require a doctor’s visit.

New Prescriptions and Refills
The pharmacy can fill prescriptions for students who present their ID. Students should also present their insurance card. Prescriptions can be from outside providers as well as from our own clinic. We accept written, call-in, fax and E-Script prescriptions. If a student has current refills at another pharmacy, we will be glad to transfer the prescriptions to our pharmacy.
Payment Options
Prescription and OTC items can be charged to a FSA/HSA card, credit card or to the student’s account, which is payable through Student Receivables or myBama.
The pharmacy can process most commercial insurances. If the student’s insurance is not one that we have a contract with, the student will have the option to bill their student account with the full amount and file a claim with their insurance.
UA offers a student insurance plan. For more information, please see our University Sponsored Health Insurance page.
